FOCUS: Obey the Call!
What does it mean to be "called"? We sometimes hear that ministers have a "higher calling", or missionaries are "called" to foreign lands. But is that right? Are only full-time, vocational ministers called? What about the rest of us? Are we called? To what are we called? And how do we live that out - how do we obey the call of God on our lives?

Digging Deeper:
- In the following passages Jesus teaches on what it means to be the "greatest" in the kingdom of heaven. Read each passage carefully; see how many principles or examples of greatness you can write down from each. Pay close attention to passages which are similar. Note any differences in the similar (often called "parallel") passages. How do the differences add to our understanding of "greatness"? Matthew 20:20-26; Mark 10:35-45; Mark 9:33-37; Matthew 18:1-5; Luke 9:46-48; Matthew 23:1-12; Luke 22:24-30
- Is greatness about who we are or what we do? Why? Based on the answers to question #1 write a definition of "Biblical greatness by finishing the following sentence: "Biblical greatness is _________________." What would motivate us "to pursue Biblical greatness? Is that what we are "called" to do? (How do the following passages help answer that question; 1 Peter 2:20-21 (hint - note the relationship of Christ's serving us and His suffering); Galatians 5:13-14; Ephesians 2:8-10.
- These two passages (Romans 12:3-8; 1 Corinthians 12) discuss what we commonly call "spiritual gifts." What is the purpose of spiritual gifts? Are they used primarily within the church or outside the church? What does that tell us about what we should be doing with our giftedness? Where is the primary place for that to happen? How are you using your gifts to serve His church? Is He calling you to more? How will you answer that call?
